This collection of knits has been inspired by the xylography “Tierra Purpúrea” made by Leonilda González and found in the national library of Uruguay.
The work Tierra Purpúrea commemorates the first student killed during the Uruguayan military-civilian
dictatorship.
All yarns used have been from Uruguayan national wool industry.
This wool hat draws inspiration from the previously mentioned woodcut, translating its symbolism into textile form.
The design features bars across the head, representing the suppression of freedom of expression under dictatorship.
These constraints ultimately unfold into a visual narrative of violence and oppression, symbolizing the devastating consequences of silencing dissent.
